3-port solenoid fitted to a 2-port MY97????
#1
Would i get better boost control by replacing my 2-port with a 3-port. Just wondering really
I'm on the quest for better boost control (and wish to retain ecu control).
Haven't got round to fitting the dawes on yet (gonna try powerstations idea - cheers Dirk - and install it along with the factory boost control soleniod (2-port that is)).
Which would give me better control?
Cheers
Iain (dazed & confused with subaru boost control)

Hi,
I have a MY98, fitted with a three-port solenoid and reconfigured restrictors.
I assume from your post that you're running with the factory ECU - I can't really say that I've noticed any difference to boost control on my car with the three-port, but overboost was never an issue for me anyway.
Of course, if you want to increase the boost then the solenoid won't really help - you will be looking for a remap, replacement ECU, remap, or other boost controller (electronic or mechanical).
I understand that it is BRD's strong preference to go with a three-port solenoid when fitting the link, as this provides more 'positive' boost control.
Do you have a boost gauge fitted?. If so, are you getting overboost and how much?.
Cheers,
Alex

Alex,
YHM
I have a boost guage fitted, and i'm running 17.5 held in fifth gear (FCD to raise the boost cut to 19.5 / 20 psi), using a slightly revised restrictor. Just trying to reduce any boost spikes to a minimum.
Oh and i have an AFR to keep an eye on fueling
Cheers
Iain
