Question

After the stories on here of STi's blowing up potentially not helped by decatting/induction mods I'm kinda worried about fitting a Scoobysport backbox to my STi5 RA

Can anyone tell me if fitting this backbox to my otherwise standard car (catted downpipe with resonater Sti centre) will be enough to alter the fuelling of the car?

It's been mentioned that perhaps an O2 sensor adjustment is recommended

What you reckon?, I run the car on Optimax and NF, just found a Lamba Link that I've hopefully got 1st dibs on aswell to keep an eye on things.

Cheers for any info

John

back box change should be ok, it's when you de-cat and/or do major induction mods that a remap is required.

Don't think you should worry........ i'd be very interested in how just a backbox could alter the fueling .

Talking

Tony, was told that maybe, and it was a mayabe, that the free'er flowing backbox could possibly alter things.

Hi Meg_S,

I doubt it will 'flow' any more then the air intake/downpipe will allow.

If this is all still standard, no worries!

If your only talking backbox, just do it mate

I run P1 with full decat, induction, etc... if you go this far, get a knocklink/lambda & make sure the fuelling is right at all times.

Enjoy,

Steve.

John,

Who told you it could alter the fuelling... be interested to know. If you want to check get a lambdalink and knocklink to be on the safe side. If it was MY car i wouldn't worry about just the backbox.... but that's just my opinion.

Go for it .

Tony.

P.s Good choice for the backbox.... i love the sound of my Scoobysport .

Unhappy

Well, fitted it, and the fr1cking thing is knocking under the car somewhere....can't see where

Think it may have something to do with the extra bits underneath for my Diff control

So it looks like its gonna have to come off tomorrow, it does sound superb though

Anyone wanna buy a Scoobysport backbox for a classic?

Question

Hi Mega, glad you did it, sorry to hear you've got a prob.

For what its worth I would have thought the b/b joins the centre to the rear of your diff bits. If anything is knocking it it would be the existing centre section? May be worth checking the brackets to make sure they're properly fixed in place?

Just a suggestion mate, don't give up, it's worth it!!

Hi mate!

The knocking SS is quite a common thing I think! I'm pretty sure its the bracket on the left hand side of the BB catching on the bracket on the car. A little bending should cure it

Chances are its hitting the rear diff, I had this problem on my type-r with the Scoobysport b/b.

Try a putting couple of small Jubilee clips on the rear hangers to move the b/b over to one side slightly. Worked for me.

I have a full ss system on my STi 5. It was running with a HKS induction kit, which after fitting a knocklink and seeing it was detting the odd time, was quickly replaced with the standard air box and K+N.
No more detting and car is a lot smoother.
Run on optimax and millers.
TEK 3 in the pipe line though, just for piece of mind.

Mega Stream

If you bought it from Rally Performance (seeing your US address) it is not a Scoobysport sourced backbox.

Rally Performance are still selling the old Hayward and Scott backboxes and these do foul the STi diffs.

Our new Janspeed made backboxes clear both diffs.
