Can someone tell me the best/correct technique for adjusting the plug gap

You need a proper spark plug gapping tool, otherwise it's too easy to deform the ground electrode. Wire-type feeler gauges are better than the flat type, too ... most independent motor factors will have a tool for the job.

If you don't have the correct tool, adjust the gap by GENTLY tapping the plug electrode on a hammer that you are holding in the other hand (to make the gap smaller...) just using the weight of the plug to do the work.

It's more difficult to enlarge the gap nicely without the correct tools - in other words don't mess it up

Thanks guys, I think I will try and find the proper tool first, can be a bit clumsy with these sorts of things.


Brickboy, what do the wire type feeler gauges look like.
