Hi all im just wondering if any1 knows what the maximum power any1 has heard of an STI pushing! At the moment im about to start on a rebuild but as im getting new block, pistons rods etc im also getting itchy fingers to test the current engine to destruction on std internals for research interest purposes.
Ofcouse it would be done properly with larger injectors, fuel pump, turbo, fmic, etc etc etc. Im only asking to see whether its worth doing it. I know people have had approx 350bhp out of an STI but does any1 know any different???

Thumbs up

I'll be dissapointed if I can't get 400 from a std wrx so it should be easier on a Sti !

400bhp!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I never thought it was possible with std rods! STI Pistons are good and can take a lot of battering. The crank is a strong item as well and i know that can take over 400bhp and 340lb ft of torque. The thing that kills the crank abd pistons is the shocks caused by detonation. Andy how would you go about getting that kind of power????? Very curious to find out.
Its weird how the evos can get 440bhp out of a std engines with tiny rods and pistons and we cant.

Regards

Last time I looked most Evo packages over 380 BHP were going internal.

Subaru internals are probably stronger than most people give them credit for if you keep them det free.

I am aiming to get my UK up to 380 BHP on standard internals for as long as they last, my present estimate is 360 BHP at 1.35-1.4 bar at the top, with more boost - ie 1.5 bar flat to the top once I get my new inlet pipe and uppipe on I hope it will be about 380 BHP. As it is at standard fuel pressure at 11.4:1 with optimised timing my 550s are at 85% duty cycle, so I expect it is making quite good power already. Maybe I am being optimistic, AP22 at 280 ATW at only 1.3 bar suggests not.... we'll see. If I had an STi engine I would aim for about 400+ on standard internals, but I expect the engine life would be greatly reduced.

John where are you buying the inlet pipe from? Will it involve major surgery to make it fit?

Deep -
From looking into this one myself quite a bit, the BPM one fits without major surgery. Well, not to the car, only to your skin... piccy below of this one crammed in connected to the APS CAF.

But the old black plastic thing needs to be hacked up - only a little, but enough so it's never going to work again - to fit this one in. The whole job should take less than a couple of hours, given measuring the length correctly to the turbo connection (so not having to remove it again!). It's also not hard to do, although lots comes off, it's obvious where it all comes from.
Lots of lubricant & plasters needed along with the usual tools

When I fitted my samco inlet pipe, I just pulled the old black one out..but it lost one of it's hose attachment...

Took only a few minutes to remove..

Thanks Tom 'lubricant and plasters',I pay good money for that sort of thing in Soho! I was also meaning to ask you about what sort of benefits you got fromthe HKS headers. Was the car remapped after? Any downsides? Happy New Year!
