00MY Cambelt change, some at 60K...
#1
Just for info; I need a 45K service which I assume included the cam belt change.......but NO! Late 00MY and some 99MY have a 60K cambelt interval.....lovely! 45K becomes a 15K interim service!

Mine got changed at 12k, problem with one of the guides which had decided to try and cut a nice groove aolng the middle of the belt. Thank goodness for warranties.
Will be checking it at regular intervals from now on.

i serviced an outback which neede a 60,000 ml service so pretty much the same as a turbo except for the spark plugs and the bill was nearly £800 the only thing they had extra was a cigerette lighter!

How they can justify the prices of these services mystifies me, apart from the belt itself they change oil: gearbox/engine/diff and coolant. Check the brake fluid maybe top up same with clutch fluid check pad disk wear and the Cambelt change itself takes 3hours at most.
Its a glorified MOT with a cam belt change and they charge millions.
Im gonna buy the belt myself and get a friend who works for Subaru to get it done for the cost of a carry out.
Just an idea

Dealer will need chassis number to confirm 45 or 60K swop.
There was a part number change on the cambelts ie a new more robust part was released for the later cars......

a lot has got to do with time allowed by subaru i think they give about 5.6 hrs to do a 60,000 which at say £50 an hour is a lot of dosh. which if it's not a turbo then can just about be done in 3 hrs but a turbo takes a bit longer coz of the plugs and the different belt. and also what the dealer charges for oil as well makes a difference.

the later cars have a different cambelt coz for some reason there is more teeth on it the later belt won't fit an early impreza for those thinking of a longer belt interval
