HELP LOSS OF POWER
#1
hELP GUYS JUST BOUGHT SCOOBY WRX 95 jap import. The thing is there is no power whatso ever and I can only go up to fifty mph.A major worry!Should the boost reading be at 0.8bar?
Another thing There also seems to be plenty of lag compared to my old car which was a Pulsar GTIR which is standard apart from exhaust and filter. On paper the scoob is 280bhp the GTIR 225bhp.Why does the scoob seem so much slower? It should be able to anyalate the GTIR.Another point is that the scoob has a smaller intercooler therefore should be less lag.Another thing is should the ECU be reset? as it probably was mapped to run jap fuel which is like 105RON.If so I would like to know
The scoob has HKS exhuast and apexi filter other than that its standard.Ive changed oil checked sparks etc. After hearing stories of blown up scoobys Im very concerned .I would be grateful for any help or advise guys.

Was it like this when you test drove it??? if yes..why did you buy it. If No take it back. Always take another test drive in the car before you hand over the money. Never let the car out of your sight.. Heard stories of bits been changed quickly whilst paperwork been done etc..
Good luck.
Good luck.

Excuse my ignorance, but 50 mph !!
What gear is that in then ??
Also couple of points...
1)Maybe the Pulsar had less power but also less weight too ?
Or maybe it was more torquey
2) I dont think 105RON is available in Japan. I thought they had 100RON & 102RON.
BTW just found this place next to Pukekohe racetrack (NZ)that sells RaceGas, rated at 104RON !! Don't think I should use it though ?!?

giving .8 bar & wont go over 50, is this a wind up, I believe something like .75 is standard or those more knowledgable will correct me.
have you tried moving that lever that sits between you & the passenger, I believe its commonly known as the handbrake.

Sounds like these guys are giving you a hard time when you are pretty worried mate!!! Shame on them.
There could be an ECU issue, but if you have a CAT, this is possibly in a collapsed state.
I had a Rver 200 GTI once (years ago), the CAT collapsed and the thing would not rev properly or go over 60MPH. This happens when the car has been standing around a lot or the CAT has been knocked or is just old. The result is that it breaks up and blocks the flow of air.
Get this checked..

No this isnt a wind up.The car didnt come with a cat it has a HKS backbox with 3"turbo to back system.I bought the car in Japan and I was driving it around to the port(75miles)and it was okay..The car was fast very responsive.
One thing I did discover was that the exhaust was blowing like hell last night.Normally you have 3pipes for exhaust system. The first is from turbo, the centre one and the the backbox. There was a huge hole underneath the first exhaust section and someone actually put cut up coke cans covered round the hole then there was a jubilee clip around it.The hole was underneath the pipe and about 2inches wide.
Could this be the possible cause of power loss? Also does the ECU need to be reset?I would be grateful if you guys can give advise me.This is my first scoob after driving a GTIR and Im starting to regret changing cars.

Andy,
The car could be in 'limp home mode'. Disconnect the battery for a couple of hours. That should reset most of the ECU(although it won't do a complete reset).

By the way sorted out power loss.My scooby mechanic replaced boost pack with UK one and set boost to 0.8 for safety. The old was was overboosting and car kept slowing down. Now the cars pretty fast now.....YIPEEEEEE
Does anyone know how to reset ECU entirely? And is it neccessary for a jap import.
