Question

Hello All
I have recently had a Magnex downpipe fitted but no heatshields were put back on (if this is possible??). Could this have any knock on affect???? The reason for asking is that a couple of days after fitment the brakes have become very weak although the pedal still feels firm and theres plenty of pad etc.

Any opinions appreciated.

MY2000 if it matters.

I would say that the heat sheild should be replaced, it may need trimming slightly, this may have had the effect on the brakes, the servo and master cylinder is fairly close to the downpipe, and it does get fairly hot!!!!

Thanks Ron - Thats what i thought but i must admit i can't see where the heatshields would go it doesn't even look as though the turbo one would fit back on.

Vinish i don't want to mention names at this stage as i don't want to bad mouth anyone particularly a garage which i do trust with my car.

GGR?

I only asked cas I am thinking of a D/P for my car. So far I have found Halfords (Near Abbey Park) to be the best value.

if you drive hard, the heat will cook your brake resevoir and clutch resevoir, so i would definately put it back on if it were my car. see this link here should provide you with info on how to do it.

I recently changed my turbo and left the heatshield off due to the possibilty of needing to adjust the actuator. The heat it produced was unbelievable, you could not touch my strut brace (alloy) becuase it was that hot.

heat shield back on and i can now touch it, even after a spirited run

John, with most twin dumps the heat shields will need adapting/cutting. It is quite common to leave them off, but as others have suggested I would refit them in some form.
