Would it be feasible to cut out the cat from my removed downpipe and fit it into a temporary centre pipe so the car can pass an MOT test?

Post

here's one that i made earlier
i bought the extra cat from a local powerflow dealer(about £40,i think)saves cutting up your downpipe.

if you are near hampshire, you(or any other 'locals' on here)are most welcome to borrow it

edited to apologise for its enormity

Thanks for that. I am often down in Soton for import auctions so when MOT time I will give you a call.

Question

I know some people are managing to pass emissions with one cat..

Elmer - Did you fail with one and then modify the pipe? or just went for two to make sure?

Dark - You might pass with centre standard pipe only.. etc..

i have read that some people are passing mot's with only the centre cat fitted and some, without any cats at all!!!

i decided to make this one(during works time btw)just to make sure. (that extra cat is apparently enough for engines up to 4 litres!!)

Does that mean it will remove more of the polutants from a 2litre or do cats remove so much from the fumes and no more? if that makes sense?

I thought you probably knew already, nice idea though

My car is an STi5 so has no centre cat, just the cat in the original front pipe. This has now been removed and replaced with PE item.

Last MOT was done at Basildon whilst at Scoobysport and they fitted a twin cat centre before I had it MOT'd.

Thanks I understand this.. I was more interested in technically what happens with a better cat rather than passing MOT..

Was bored and wondered technically how a cat worked..

I know it changes the make up of the fumes and chemically modifies them but wasn't sure if there was a ceiling to the effects?
