Question

i have been using valvoline 5w 50 synpower in my p1 from new and have done 22,ooo miles with no problems. but the other day my subaru dealer got a letter from subaru uk that the p1s should be using 10w 40 because of some engine failures. i was wanting to know what oil other people have been using and have anyone had any problems with p1 engines?.

Seconded !!! Subaru them selves have always recommended 10w 40 minimum for "heavy use" which in my book means most people.

Don't use 0W anything unless you plan to move to Alaska. Not at all suitable, even for the worst UK winters.

Motul 300V is my first choice, even STI have re-badged it

For those near or passing Silverstone - Grand Prix Racewear's circuit store keep Motul 15W50 in stock.

I have always used 5w40 ~ normally Esso / Exon products as my mate supplies them!

We rally Subaru's and have been advised by an oil scientist to use the Mobil Motorsport 15/50. We have never had a problem using this and the cars are driven by "heavy users"!
