I don't think WRC cars have a dump valve, that is the wastegate you can hear....
Like I will be able to hear when I have finished fitting my new downpipe (stopped for lunch )

didn't bother getting one. Heard that dump valves actually slow your car down. Apparently nobody in rallying uses them. Bought a magnex oval instead. Anyone know how much bhp extra i'll get if i centre decat it. (94 wrx 240hp)

Question

Slows the car down???... Is that for real? I've just fitted one and now the car feels slightly faster (gearchanges & turbo acceleration)...

Scoobies come with a dump valve anyway. Some people (me for one) upgrade to Vent To Atmosphere ones (as opposed to recirculating ones) - dump valves (or blow off valves) prolong the life of the turbo hence the car would probably be 'faster' without one but a standard impreza turbo wouldn't last long in this state I reckon! The general concensus is that 'uprating' the dump valve has minimal effect on performace (but maximum increase in scaring pedestrians )

I still maintain that anything which reduces turbo spool-up has to increase the overall acceleration of thye car.

How the **** can it slow it down?

I think the general concensus on these boards is that if you have one fitted (VTA) they are ok but if you don't then they will damage your turbo

Dont know how for sure if it slows it down. Was just reading an evo forum on dump valves and there was a guy on there who rallys an evo v1. He was really slagging valves and said not to bother.

IMHO Dump Valves of the VTA type are cosmetic with very little if any performance gain. We put 'em on to (In our opinion) enhance the character of the car.

I put my forge on because i heard my car coming along the road, sounding great, but every time it came to a gear change, the barrage of noise stopped I got it to "fill" the sound gap so now she sucks, growls, bangs, pops and whooshes (Sounds like a girl i once knew ) no matter what speed she's going.

Love 'em

Mikey
