Get the battery checked first, could be the capacity is down on that, dont tend to get many problems with the starter motors,so save wasting money-get it checked.

Wink

Check the voltage in the battery across the terminals you'll probably find it is low and when you try and start the car it probably drops well below 12volts..
Checked my bike recently when I had a fault and it was 12.1volts.. click the starter and it went to 11.8volts and clicked lots..

If the starter is turning then I doubt it is the start motor.. most likely to turn or not turn. Although it still could be the battery if it doesn't turn.

Charge the battery or jump the car off another and see if the starter motor works like normal then..

Agree with JGM - we had this recently on our UK98 turbo and it turned out to be a flat battery. We didn't get round to testing the voltage, we just swapped it out with our Corsa's battery and that fired up fine, so off we went to Halfords to get a new one. No problems since, so we assume the starter motor is fine.

Ok now im screwing.

changed the battery last nite as it apparently "was" knackered.

get in again and it seems to turn over quicker/better etc.

'cept this morning i get in and it goes "eeeeaaaarrrhhhhhhhh....wuuuaaaawuuaaawuaaa" makes more noise then starts up, exactly as before.

can anyone tell me why something is fcuked ! pls it's doin my head in.

Sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery properly or a wiring fault as it has drained the new battery.. and not changed it whilst driving etc..

Try either an electrical specialist or get a volt metre from Halfords or similar.. (with a digital reading range 0 to 20volts probably best) and check what the battery is at when engine off and when running etc..

You should be able to get the Alternator recoiled cheaper by far than replacement.. again you need to find a local electrical car specalist to you that..

That would be what I would do next..

well i ran a voltmeter over it and engine off is about 12, drops to 11.5 when turning over.

ive had the starter off tho and run it independantly and it seems that the gears inside are making a bit of noise, doesnt seem to spin as fast as it should.

???

With the engine running what were the volts at?

Although they don't have them listed I suspect Midland Impreza would have a secondhand starter motor.. or like wise with the alternator you can get it recoiled.

I haven't used Midland just noticed the website and they seem to sell lots of stuff at reasonable prices..
