Hi Folks,

A quick question......

What induction kits are available that won't screw my warrenty, or alternitivley what could I get thats simple to chande back and forward.

Oh yeah it's a MY99 DBM (not that the DBM is important)

Cheers

Don't forget to mention the £££££.

Edited because I'm suffering from fat finger syndrome....

OK Irealise that most people have buggered off to TRAX

But I stuck at home with the kids.

Someone must have expirience (with induction kits that is)

What about the 'ITG Performance Panel Air Filter'

any changes will affect your warranty, I've just bought a ITG, safest for MAF too, like me if afraid if you want to increase performance then you have to kill the warranty! or get prodrive!

TBH I would stick to a ITG panel filter, induction kits are well discussed as being a cause of MAF problems on MY99 cars, also they don't really give any performance increase and may cause flat spots and loss of torque.

They do make a nice sound though

If you do get one make sure it don't rattle about as some say its this vibration that causes the MAF problem.

K&N 57i is the induction of choice on a MY99+ car, its the one with the least reported failures. I'm running one, as is a mate with no probs

agreed they are good bits of kit however the temperature of the air on turbo cars is more important, and since the impreza gets a colder supply from under the wing it is not advisable to change it to a cone filter as you're not guaranteed cold air without using any additional gadgets to channel the air, you will simply draw in hot air from under the bonnet.

I use a GGR kit which comprises a large K&N cone filter (bigger than the 57i) on an alloy bell mouth housing attached to the MAF housing. No probs.
I've read Mac's Power in Dublin offer a guarantee against MAF damage with this kit. Performance Subaru in N.Ireland also sell these. (I think) Don't know how much - I got mine off the 'for sale' section for £50.
Look at Stephen Done's website from the Dyno section for pics etc.

Fitting is easy - http://www.chiark.com/scooby/kandn.asp

As for the warm air - I've found its made no difference. I've made up a cold air feed pipe from the vent under the indicator to the cone and its not made a huge diff, its been tested on here for about a drop of 2 degrees C with the cold air pipe. Also, when the car is moving there is plenty of cold air going into the engine bay anyway so its not that big an issue, besides the OEM setup still draws in its air from the engine bay...........

Yes it does from the black pipe behind headlight, into wing, through resonator, and then back out the wing into air box or towards air filter.

Wink

Yeah - like he said - the OEM comes from an intake behind the headlight - last time I looked that was still the engine bay.....

The system then routes the air (all enclosed now) through the restrictive resonator in the wing and then back into the the airbox. Just coz it goes through the wing at some point doesn't mean thats where the air comes from............

UHF - to add - depends if the resonator has been removed or not - if it has then it will suck in air from the wing, however thats not OEM. With the resonator still in place in the wing, it picks it up from the headlight area/engine bay
