Sawing off the gear lever. Good or bad?
#1
I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can saw 20mm or so off the top of the OE gearlever on a UK car to give you the short throw that you can also pay a lot for. Anyone done it?
Does it have any advantages apart from cost, or any disadvantages apart from not being able to go back to the longer throw if you want to?
If buying a complete kit is a better idea, WHY is it?
Thanx guys

its an old trick the escort boys did in the 80's.
once cut [squarly] you will need to tap & die it to get the thread back on.
personaly I would spend the money & get a quick shift or a altered shift stick, some guys on here have moved the linkage on the stick creating the altered shift possition.

if you get a momo ****(ooh err missus) it will slip a few (5/6 mm) down the shaft(there i go again) and shortens the throw without resorting to cutting it
hope this helps
