Having already said i think i may go to the Link system, and then agreeing to sell my Tek2, which i will honour on saturday, i am now thinking which would be better?
I would like pros and cons of both please, if you have the time.
Things like cost, remapping, subaru dealer knowledge, other requirements, etc, etc.

Link, go on you know it makes sense!
Alternatively Gems plug in jobbie, Don't think bd supplies, but would map similar to Link and motec etc.
Also Autronic plug in jobbie, same applies for mapping.
Bob may have some better reasoning....
Some say the link makes no power, personally, I think if you can put the right amount of fuel in, fire it at the right time, it doesn't matter how you do it. Just a case of features/preferences/toys (anti lag etc)

There was a 2nd hand link setup for sale a while back, ecu, 3 port solonoid, knock and lamba monitors also.
£600 or so I think..
Add £350 to get this setup and you got a cheap setup (if its still available)

Chris from Scotland was selling his (The_Gza) on here. He's selling is Pug at the moment in the For Sale forum, so it's worth dropping him some mail.
He sold his Scooby 3 months ago, but was selling the Link seperately (it was for a MY99 IIRC).

Check it, autronics web page, sounds like the danglies. A number of people on te MLR have them, but if you can get Bob to map it that's even better, simply because the guy that distributes them here seems to charge el'plentio.

you cant just ask link or ecutek.
what do you want from your ecu?
I like the fact that the ecutek retains all the features of the stadnard ecu.
I dont like the fact that you cant map it real time, you have to make a change then go back and test whether it was right or not.
but then it doesnt have antilag!
Would also like to ask bob what is the resolution of the ecutek map.
I also like the fact that there is no way of tellign that any mod has been carried out by looking at the ecu.

Ecutek map is 16x16 for fuel and ignition, with definable load and rpm points. Boost is 8x8 as is boost duty cycle.
Link et all would do away with MAF sensor, which on the later cars is just another thing to go wrong if it stays on the car.

Adam - JEC's maps allows both axis' full scaling resolution, move the load points wherever you like. You're limited only by the number of load points (different # for each map).

now that is a nice feature. You can concentrate the resolution where it is needed most.

Am I right in thinking that it will still have the same poor boost control of the standard car?
in that respect i think the aftermarket ecus would be better.
As I have said on 22B before, I am leaning more towards the jems, and away fromt he link, as for not much more money it seems to bridge the gap feature wise to the likes of motec etc. A lot of thought has gone into the features, and personally I think it is very well specced.
For simplicity though, and retaining standard idle etc which is a beautiful thing, I cant deny the attractiveness of the ecutek.

Standard boost control seems okay on mine, a 96 ecu. But that uses the 3 port solenoid (not excellent I know, but better than factory 2 port).
I know JB has used dawes on a few cars, but I would bit the bullet and shell out for a 3 port solenoid.
Again fully definable scales on boost map.
Haven't tried it with any stronger actuators though ('cause I
don't have any!).
If you are going to be doing more mods in future, the Tek3 route is little different to the tek 2 as soon as you change. I would go for a link on the basis that they are not so feature packed, and you are less likely to get yourself into a mess once bob has left you to it.

Not played too much with 2 port and the OE turbo, but can confirm 2 port sucks big-time with a vf23 and decent breathing
3 port is a different case altogether - I won't say perfect boost control (that's reserved for the Dawes!), but it is very, very good once the maps match the turbo.

I been using a 2-port on a MY99 with a link and a VF30
and I get a bit of overboost 0.1bar..but I put down my Wg sense quite a bit.
dowser have you experienced a lot of overboost with the 2-port ??

I was indeed - I found it too difficult to find the right duties to even get close to what the turbo wanted, the 3 port clarified it big-time.
Having said that, with the 3 port and an 18.1psi target I'm still getting upto 2.5psi overboost briefly worst case...doesn't seem to be an issue and I'm not too worried.
For the cost of a 3 port, I'd recommend trying it!

It's worth noting the duty cycles on the 96 ecu which is mapped for the bigger turbo.
The rpm points are stacked in 200 rpm increments around 3300 rpm where the turbo is spooling up. Stretching out to 2000 rpm higher up.

I did about 4 VF23 cars with EcuTek and standard 2 port solenoid. Absolutely no problems controlling the boost!
It´s not the boostcontrol of the JECS which S**KS, it´s the std. mapping of the boost control that doesn´t suit "free breathing" cars. (overshoot)

I will try a 2 port again (now I know what was wrong with the OE map ), but suspect the creep introduced by it will mess up the response too much. Were your vf23's on the .7 bar actuators?

But I got some tips from an old fish, reg. 2-port tuning
