my power stering has stoped working (or someone has stolen my wheels )..
there is no fluid leak at all but the stering has just gone really heavy ..
anyone had a similar problem or have a clue what could be wrong ???

have you checked the power steering reservoir for fluid.... oh, and is there still a belt attached to the pump... the reservoir can be found at the front of the engine on the left hand side and below this under the protective covers for the belts at the front of the engine there will be a pulley that the pump runs...

but all that is lookin good , fluid in the res &
belt is tensioned up nicely... ???

It might be that the actual pump is knackered...

Have a good luck under the car near the back of the engine and have a look at the steering rack... see if there is any oil leaking there....

my power steering leaking a little i was told to put stop leak in it is this a good idea, as it is a very small leak, it's actually lower part of rack any ideas, sorry to butt in bamp!

ive put stop leak in mine to, but ive heared it doesnt last too long... but its ok for now...

i've tried all thati can think off (even put it up on the ramp at work and had a good look around under there)......

no leaks at all, but just no power stering what the hell do i do ???

get on the phone to midland-impreza or grade a subaru and get a new/second hand pump cant think what else it could be...??

Sounds like the pump has gone - mine just did that at 30k with same symtoms as you.
Cost me £415 to replace the bloody thing in a Subaru garage.
Apparently Subaru charge £285 and VAT = £335 for pump alone so I would try to find one from a breakers yard or 3rd party supplier.
On a lighter note after complaining to dealer may be getting some refund as a goodwill gesture. Dealer has told me pump should last for life of car - greater than 80k.

Midland has quoted me £100 for a secondhand one ...
just hope i don't shell out for this pump and still have the problem ......

Ps. does anyone know of a good Subaru garage in the SE london area ?? the dealres around here won't touch my WRX (import) .....
