I have a Litchfield modified Sti7, with full decat etc. When fitting the new exhaust, they didnt replace the turbo heat shield presumably because it wouldnt fit anymore?

Anybody else had the same problem? Do you guys think its safe to run the car long term as it is, and do track days with no heat shield?

Exclamation

Same thing happened to me with my MY97.

Didn't realise till it was too late that they hadn't replaced it (some people alter - cut it to fit).

When I phoned them up I was told that it would definately not cause any problems. The brake fluid (DOT 5.1) still has it's own little heat shield so it's only the clutch fluid bottle that's anywhere near it.

Still going to keep a close eye on it though.

Matt
P.S. I'm not planning on doing track days though so your case may be different.

I saw in some rally mag that they sell heat shield material, maybe I could make something and bolt it on. Then I would probably have cooler clutch and brake fluid, and a nice rattle to go with it.

Cut it and put it back on yourself, will stop some heat going to the intercooler.

Clubby,

Ask them to send you one up. If they don't have yours anymore and they remove them from other cars, they're bound to get one eventually.

Better safe than sorry.

I was reassured when I was told that a certain lead member of SIDC doesn't have the heat shield on his car and he tracks it all the time without any trouble.

Yeah but does he have the pipes lagged???

All i can say is, if subaru go to all that trouble for the pain in the **** heatshield, it must be for a reason.

Just my opinion
