Advice on these mods appreciated
#1
I have had the PPP on my mod list since I got the Scooby in June (MY99) and now that I have some money coming to me next month, I am having trouble convincing myself that nearly 2k is worth it.
The car is under warranty for another 3 years so cannot lose it. Yet checking out the Dyno runs on the UK turbos from the rolling road sessions etc, a few simple mods really come close to the PPP for power and torque.
I was thinking of a Scoobysport BB and D/P (keeping the cat for MOT) along with an ITG filter. I am really after the sound as well, and this would cost almost a fraction of the PPP price! Could really do with saving the rest of the money for once to go on something else apart from the car.
Hopefully I should be able to find a friendly dealer who wouldn't mind these mods from reading the rest of your posts..
What do you reckon? Should I get the PPP or these other mods instead???
Cheers,
Ant

I wouldn't bother with the PPP, I reckon your best off with a full decat, panel air filter, and a ECUTEK Tek2 remap (that way you keep your ECU looking standard from all respects, except the performance)
I'm yet to go the Tek route, but I am planning on doing so very soon!

Thats my impression of the TEK ECU's as well, the only thing that gets changed is the map, everything else on the ECU looks and acts the same, the Select Monitor wont know any different.

Comes down to the dealer and the warranty people, BUT :-
- The changes due to a Tek2 are not detectable under normal diagnostics.
- If there is a big warranty claim (Engine rebuild) then would you want to risk having obvious mods (decat etc) on you car that would invalidate the claim or at least draw suspicion to other mods ?
- Inspectors do go out to the dealers to assess big claims remember, however helpful the dealer is.
If you've already invested in the warranty (and very cheap it is when you have a claim to make) I'd go the almost non-detectable route.

I didn't realise before this that the TEK 2 was discreet and would not show under normal tests. I am definitely thinking of investing in one now!
Still don't think I would get away with running a full de-cat. Hopefully just the BB, d/p and filter will give me a big improvement for now and keep my warranty safe if I can find a good dealer.

Depends in London where you are, but I THINK that Cheam Motors has a very reasonable view on add-ons.
The Tek2 only works really well if you have a full decat. It does work without, but it's worthwhile doing the other bits as well.
And I think you'd find that the DP would be the part of the warranty up-keep that would be the problem - mid cat doesn't do a lot & the BB does nothing (so fine there!) but the DP is it bit more in the thick of things.

VF23 from New Zealand £445 delivered
Second hand full exhaust system c.£350
Ecutek remap £500
Geometry and bumpsteer £100
Eibachs £150
Brake pads £90
Braided brake lines and fluid £60
Labour to fit brake bits, turbo, exhaust etc c. 8 hours £300
Oh, that leaves you £5 from your £2000 for a bottle of (admittedly cheap) choccies for your loved one to make up for the above.
This is my personal take on the best things you can do to a MY99/00 Scooby overall for c.£2k spend.
Forgot to say this would give you about three to four times the increase in power that a PPP would give you.

Cheers Nom. Cheam motors is only about 10 miles away from me, and I will also try Spring park motors to see what they say.
I really want all these mods like full de-cat etc, but it would be too much hassle trying to remove it all before a dealer goes near it etc. I really didn't think I would ever have to think about modding the Scooby when I got it, until I joined up on here and got the bug!

john banks,
what about a front mount
forget the eibachs, which in my opinion are a waste of time on my99 onwards car and get an uprated fuel pump instead.

I am going to see about cancelling the extended 2 years warranty tomorrow to see if it is still possible.
There is no way I can keep the car standard for 3 years along with the dealers 1 year warranty to run first! I only do 8-10k miles a year, so should not miss it hopefully. Seemed like a sensible idea at the time after driving a Scooby for the first time, and not thinking I would ever have to mod it!
All goes well a full de-cat and filter will be first followed by a TEK 2!

I bought my VF23 from Diesel Distributors in New Zealand. Their web site is down at the moment but their e mail address is dave@dieseld.co.nz The fellow I dealt with was Dave.
The VF23 was roughly 445 GBP, depending on exchange rates, and that was with delivery to Greece. You will have to pay some import duties to customs as well, but it's not too much.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

LOL at ak47mh, going to cancel my extended warrenty
That's the spirit!
Good luck with Springpark, suspect you'll find Cheam motors more useful. You'll probably find you get a better answer if you speak to either garage face to face. But then if you are going to forget about the warrenty why not get it serviced by an Independant and save enough to take the Mrs on a driving holiday too.

Interesting, I've also been offered to extend my MY99 warranty for another 2 years for £388.
However, I've already got uprated brakes, exhaust, suspension and from what you guys are saying I would have no luck in a claim situation.
Would this Mondal outfit really reject an engine rebuild if they spotted the none standard brakes/suspension ?
I need to make a choice in the next few days.....
Cheers Pete
