The metal end piece on my 57i has come unstuck and fallen off - I think it needs to be on there for the safety of the maf looking at the end without it on so I need to glue it back on.

Any suggestions as to a glue that would be safe to use to stick it back that will be ok in heat/cold and not foul the MAF in any way at all???? eg, getting through the filter...

gut feel is good quality silicone

but you will need to thoroughly de-oil de-grease everything, and make ure the silicone is fully cured before refitting.

Can't you get it replaced? Thought they had some sort of life time warranty? Worth a try

Send it back to K&N to relpace it surley thats what the warrenty is for, phone them and see what they say.

Just looked on the K&N site about the warranty:

Things that make the warranty invalid:

Incorrect Service: The Filtercharger® element must be cleaned and serviced with K&N cleaner and air filter oil per the prescribed routine maintenance procedure as outlined in the product literature that accompanies the Filtercharger® .
No Warranty Registration Card on File: Purchaser must send the completed Warranty Registration Card to K&N Engineering, Inc. at time of purchase.
No Proof of Purchase: At time of warranty claim, buyer must provide proof of purchase (original receipt or invoice).
Incorrect Use: Any damaged, abused or modified Filtercharger® will not be warranted.

I bought it 4 or so months old second hand so I've registered no card will mail them anyway and see what they say......

Be very careful with silicone, it produces acetic acid when it cures, this will 'eat' non ferrous metals like MAFS

A 'slow' cure araldite or similar would be a safer bet, just tape it all up with masking tape overnight to keep it where it should be.

ps, learnt the hard way with silicone when (years ago) I sealed up a model radio box...a week later the pcb had almost melted

Right, got an email back from K&N, they say that the silver cap is a cosmetic addition and does not need to be on there - the filter will be fine without it. If I did want to glue it back on they said to use a good quality superglue.
