Hi,
Ive just bought an Sti RA Vs2 with 38K miles, im looking for some info on the following. The first one is really buggin the nips.

There appears to be a rattle coming from the drivers side wheel and ive looked at the bushes and links and they seem fine the shocker and caliper seem good too, at first I thought it was the air dam which is hidden behind the inner arch plastic but after removing that the noise is still there. This kind of problem will be hard to diagnose through the forum im sure but one thing I thought I would check is:
Should there be very slight play in the front drive shaft, im talking about 1-2mm, is that normal ??

Im going to change all oils and poss coolant too, what are the recomendations for: (make and spec)

Engine oil ? (Is mobil 1 overated, millers semi not do ??)

Diff oil ??

Gearbox oil??

Power steering fluid ??

Coolant ??

Also find out where the jacking point is would be a start !!

Waiting for a translated Owners manual so hopfully this will cover a lot of the questions but until then I thought I could pick some of your brains.
Ta heaps

Driveshaft play?? Where exactly do you mean play?
Rattles could also be brake pads, if the anti rattle shims have not been fitted. Its amazing how much noise they make.
Could also be antiroll bar drop link bushes or similar.
Engine oil- Mobil 1 Motorsport 15/50, or Motul 300v ( I think thats the motul poeple reccomend?? ) Dont use a semi synth, most are ****, it just aint worth it.
Gearbox/Diff, Castrol Syntrax
PAS, Dexron II
Coolant??? Water+antifreeze???
Jacking point - depends what/where you want to jack it up. There are several.

When I say play, i mean if I lie under the car grap hold of the driver side driveshaft and try an turn it anti-clockwise or clockwise there is about 1-2mm of play, is this normal ??

Thanks for the recomendations, thats exactly what im gonna buy and use. : )

As for jacking points, knowing where all of them are would be handy. There seems to be a bit in the sill that blends into the sill, whereas the rest of the sill has a fin pointing towards the ground. Im wondering if this is it, im sure these seem like dead simple questions but ive only worked on dead simple cars and without a manual ill end up with a tea strainer for a floorpan .

Ta heaps

For a trolley I use the towing eyes at the front and under the rear diff at the back.

That should give you plenty of scope for getting the car up!
