Question

Hello,

I'm wanting to buy a De-cat pipe for my MY97 turbo, but I'm a bit confused!

Should I get a straight through pipe or a resonated pipe?

I was thinking about a Magnex as it seems pretty reasonably priced, it is only a piece of steel pipe after all! Are there any other makes I should consider?

Cheers and thanks in advance!,

resonated pipes keep the exhaust noise down a bit but due to the box on them are slightly more restrictive thus may zap a few bhp although its all subjective........

I got the magnex without and it was about 55 quid brand new

I have a Magnex with resonator..............

As Mr Jawa says it keeps the noise down a bit as I drive 20K miles a year and don't want a headache.

Noise will also depend on whether you swap for a decatted downpipe or which backbox you choose.....

Ah I see, so Resonator=less noise. No resonator=more noise, annoyed neighbours and more smiles! I think I'll go for a straight through pipe then!

Thanks guys.

Do you notice any differnce in performance with a De-cat pipe?

Decat mid or downpipe and mid?

With just the middle cat removed I found the car revved much better and was more eagle to pull higher up in the revs towards the red line. With the downpipe and mid catless the car simply fly's, turbo spool up is sooner - more noise - loverly!!!!

Thumbs up

I'm just going to go for the center section just now, perhaps I'll go for the full de-cat sometime in the future.

Thanks mate!

IMHO the decat downpipe makes most noise and gives the biggest gains, followed by the decat centrepipe then backbox...

Some people will argue backbox then centre pipe.... its down to you

Decatting downpipe may have passing MOT problems when it comes around.....

My car already has a back box, don't know what kind it is though it was on the car when I bought it, it's a 3" round and sounds nice, not very loud though! So hopefully a de-cat mid section will give it a few more dB's! as well as BHP!

Cheers.
