Bought my UK MY98 3 weeks ago. Guy had always run it on 95 unleaded. I mentioned on here about it lagging a little when changing gear at high revs where as I expected to stay in the power band. It was suggested I put Optimax in and ECU reset.
Since then I have run tank to fuel light on and done about 200 miles on Optimax. Can tell that it is now smoother through the first 3000rpm. Not noticed any diff up top though.
Had a few occassions where it doesnt want to start after gentle driving.
Wondered if 200 miles is enough to not now bother doing ECU reset or if you still think it worth while?
Cheers
Matt

Wouldnt bother with ecu re-set for the fuel, but now that you mentioned the trouble with starting....do a ecu diagnostic check by plugging the (under the dash) plugs together....see if you have any fault codes, sort out if necessary then do the ecu re-set.

i would do a ecu reset first and then run at least a couple of tanks of optimax through. let the ecu know that its got some proper mans petrol in it. And buy some octane booster.
i can't beleive its always been run on normal unleaded, thats just not right.

Thing is i am a Muppet and wouldn't know a fault code it the dash lit up and said "fault code"..well maybe I would, but otherwise...

Apparently the dealer told him SUL and Optimax were a waste of money and to run it on 95?!

Well if they CAN cofirm then I'll KEEP running my my96 on normal 95. Has been for the last two years, without a hitch or a missed beat. Maybe its something to do with the fact its TOTALLY standard, not even a fancy back box...but I'd still like to know. I was considering starting using fancy petrol...

Thanks.
I was given instructions for ECU reset before. (Unless you mean about the fault codes)
A little nervous about breaking the car, and thus my question about not needing to now it has had some time to "re learn".
Cheers

As far as I know the uk 98> can run ok on 95ron, they have the ability to 'adjust'.
You will obviously gain performance using higher octane fuel.
Fault codes...yes, if you want them and cant find them on bbs then mail me boy.
Cheers.

Don't be scared Molds. You might have trouble finding the connetors under the dash at first, they usally have some tape gathering the cables up. You may also find the are more than 4 connetors, but don't worrie cause it seems only the two green go together and two of the black go togehter. I also have to remove the section of dash under the steering wheel to get at it.
Cheers.

Possibly an odd suggestion here, but a lag while changing gear at high rpm could be the cr@ppy twin pea-shooter doing it's best, or a BOV in need of a clean (relasing slowly would screw between-gears performance up). The oem BOV is quite sluggish enough without having filth in it too. And it would only be evident at higher boost when there's more dumping going on
