You don't need to fully decat for pops and bangs.
My MY01 pops quite frequently, de-cat centre section and HKS hiper exhaust.
I didn't noticed the atmos dump valve increase the number of pops.

I have a Sti v6, with full decat, forge vta dumpvalve use millers with optimax but I get no bangs or flames, I have been trying to get it to do so for months. Yes the car does get hot and release the throttle quickly but nothing, the only time i get some pops is when i come up to a junction at about 20 mph and put it down into first gear as the revs drop to about 2500rpm it will pop a couple of times. The only thing i can think of is that the fuelling starts again at this point, so is there a switch that controls this? If so can this be adjusted? Or perhaps is my car running lean all the time? The vta HAS NOT upset my tick over or slow running I have tried both types of springs, i am now using the stiffer one with added shim, without doubt the least lag, quickest spool up and it would seem best power! Can the mixture be adjusted easily or is it all controlled by the ecu?
In my search for a rich mixture I even disconnected the lambda sensor hoping it would go into some safe rich mixture mode! but once again no flames, perhaps I am doomed for a borring friendly rear end, if so perhaps the way to go would be an evo7 extreme with its antilag!
I really do hope one of the engine gurus could shed some light on this matter.
Many thanks in hope, Keith

Tiny,
I think the problem is that the late models are too enviro friedly,
we need a way to get fueling on the over run. In my mind i think this means expensive! come on you lot please help us.

Slap some NF in your Optimax and get your exhaust baking. A good motorway blast should do it. Come to rest, gas it and then lift off quick to change gear and then straight back on the power.
VTA Dumpvalve and decat do help a bit.
Works for me!

I've heard of using a fifth sparkplug in the exhaust for flames - perhaps the poping would be a side effect? For anyone that is interested, SCC Performance do a 'flamer kit'. I'm tempted just for a laugh
