Default Dccd into non dccd ‘97 wrx

hello, tried to search this out, but had various and conflicting results.

Basically I have a 97 Jdm WRX and have been offered a complete 98 Sti gearbox with dccd. I appreciate I dont have the wiring/sensors in the car as is, but can I fit the dccd unit alone to my known good box? Or is it a complete box and dccd swap out? I would then buy a stand alone dccd control unit.

has anyone done this?

thanks,

Dave

Your walking into trouble to many variables. Drop gears, diffs, wiring. etc etc, but it will physically fit ok.

Ok thanks, the front and rear diff would remain as is if i was just to swap out the center dif for a dccd. I guess the question is, is that even possible ? The electics would be covered off in a stand alone unit, im just looking for centre diff control and would not expect it to be integrated with the rest of the car. Though I am expecting to delete the abs if required too

how do the drp gears affect it or are involved in it? Genuine question, not being a smarty pants or anything

I've fitted a dccd six-speed into a V2 ra. The standard dccd loom was missing. I bought a DCCD pro controller and did a fresh install, relatively easy to do. Excellent customer service and support from DCCD pro.

The drop gears are in the rear of the tail casing and are generally 1.1/1 on non DCCD cars and 1/1 on DCCD cars but as you probably know Subarus are a minefield. If you are 100% sure nothing diff or gearbox wise has been swapped/changed then a bit of investigation on a gearbox chart will tell you exactly what you have then you have to go from there. There is a multitude of ways of going about it but far easier if you get it right the first time. If my memory serves me right I think the earlier JDM classics where all 1/1 drop gears so in theory it should fit straight on. To check take the rear end plate as such where the tailshaft comes out off and if the two gears in there are the same size then you are good to go without stripping your new box. Better safe than sorry. As stated before it will physically fit regardless
