Dawes Device Dilemma
#1
Another question that's prob been covered before (roll on Search facility) - looking at the Dawes device - what are the downsides for fitting to a MY02? It looks cheap and simple, but not many people on here seem to have one - what sort of gains are we looking at on an otherwise standard car. I particularly like the bit about it being easily removable in warrantly situations
Any advice appreciated

Jon - just fitted one to our STI UK as it was spiking at 1.41 bar!!! I now have it set to 1.2 and it pulls that boost and holds it in 4th, 5th and 6th! No negative issues regarding them whatsoever, just don't go silly with the boost!

The guys on I-Club aren't actually too keen on MBC's like Dawes for MY01 due to high EGT's recorded when driving on part throttle - commuting, motorway cruisin etc.
Have a look though www.i-club.com and do some searches for solutions they've found.

fitted one to my MY01 in december, and added my findings to the dawes faq.
it would be wise to monitor EGT and boost, but i haven't had any problems whatsoever.
the majority of the exhaust gas temp issues (and i haven't come across any in 10,000 miles) are solved by replacing the down pipe with a decat item- but this may be further than you want to go.
take the plunge, spend the money, you won't be disappointed.
hope this helps,

When I cruise on light throttle, I don't hae any boost, I can cruise at 90mph with no boost at all. So I don't see how even a MBC can produce boost when you are throttling so lightly, which I do on the motorway in the interests of fuel economy.
If you have high boost at the manifold, that would translate to more power, if you don't need that power, surely you would be thottling back, and reduce boost (less exhaust gas).
Am I over simplyfying this?

Chuckster - what are EGTs? I looked on i-club, but when typed in Dawes on search nothing came up!
