Fitted the Perrin short shift kit
Fitted a Perrin short shift and shifter bushes the other week,
It came with fitting instructions and the bushes were fairly easy to install, most difficult part was pushing the triangle rear shift bush on to the shaft. Not much space to manoeuvre in there and it's a very tight fit.
The adjustable short shift adapter was bit fiddly to fit, Again due to space.
It can be adjusted so that the shift is just like oem or super short, at its shortest there literally 1'' of movement between natural and a gear.
After fitting my first impressions were good, Gear shifts feel awesome very tight and precise.
Only problem is that the nvh from the bushes was terrible! In the lower gears it sounded like I had a straight cut gear box.
After getting it back on the ramp we swapped out each bush independently to see if it was one or both bushes causing the noise.
Turns out the noise was being transferred by the red shift support bush.
It basically secures the shifter support
directly to the gearbox.
The red Perrin bush is a very hard polyurethane, more like solid plastic in feel with no give what so ever.
After a bit of research I got hold of a superpro shifter support bush.
As soon as I got this in my hand the difference was quite noticeable.
The feel is more like a bouncy ball with a slight bit of flex in it. It also has ribs built into it to reduce surface area and transfer less noise but still a lot stiffer than the standard bush.
After fitting the nvh has completely vanished and the shift feel is still awesome.
The Perrin bushes would be fine on a track car but I couldn't handle the noise. Superpro is definitely the way to go for a road driven car.

I'm considering replacing the bushes on mine but not sure whether to go for short-shift or not. Have had mixed experiences on previous cars (and I don't think that the standard throw is particularly long). Is it possible to replace the bushes from the cabin (without getting under the car)?

Your right the oem gear shift throw isn't long, but it is a lot nicer feel. I have mine set half way and it's still noticable.
The bushes are under the car I have access ramp so helped to make it easier.

I've fitted quite a few short shifters in the past, MKV Golf Edition 30, B7 RS4 to name a few. All have ended up being very notchy and ruined the gear change. But, I fitted the Prodrive short shifter and Kartboy bushes to my blob wagon and love it! Well worth it. See my thread here:

I've got the CDF quick shift kit fitted to my hawk. Works very well but for me the gearstick was far too low and uncomfortable once fitted, so I made a threaded extender and it's been prefect ever since. Back to normal "****" height but much reduced throw and positive feel.

Sounds like the Perrin version has been thought through as with a shorter throw you need more leverage. The Prodrive version is slightly shorter but still works great.

I've fitted the red perrin bush to my 05 sti, didn't notice any additional nvh (I have a quiet exhaust too) Have bought the rear shifter bush but haven't installed it yet, Going from various searches its the rear bush which increases noise the most)
P.S I installed a beatrush pitch stop mount at a later date and the additional nvh was instantly noticeable.

If you have both bushes in polly the nvh is very loud,
After swaping the front bush back to rubber the loud nvh was gone.
If you had the front polly and the rear rubber there was also no nvh.
If you want both bushes upgraded without exessive nvh the superpro item is massively quieter than the Perrin item.
