Default Upgrading the 5 speed help....

Now my 53 blob is getting more powerful 380ish hp with similar torque, I obviously want more power

But I'm thinking about getting a replacement ready for the gearbox as the next map will see me over 400

My question is can other boxes be used not just the 6 speed? For example is the type RA from the classic any good?

My reason is because the 6 speed at 2k is very expensive! What were the alternatives before the newage came along with the 6 speed?

None of the classic boxes will be any use to you.

A good 6 speed box can handle quite a bit more than the power you want.

Expensive yes but you've spent quite a bit on your car already I guess?

Yeah I mean as its a wrx I've had to upgrade a lot, including the engine to get the power.

Just seems a lot for it and was wondering/hoping there was a alternative.

Out of interest what did people do in the years before the release of the newage, was it custom boxes all the way?

The hawkeye WRX box is supposed to be the strongest. Can be had for half the price of 6 speed.

PPG gearboxes were popular before the Newage 6 speeds

PPG boxes are also more expensive than 6 speed gearboxes.

No cheap way of doing it, one of the reasons the STi models are so popular, in brakes and gearbox alone they make £3k difference over a WRX.

Yeah I checked the price of a PPG and wasn't keen haha, hawkeye wrx boxes are not too bad though it seems.
