Question Forrester Cam Belt change - when ??

I've got a Forrester Turbo first reg Dec 1999.

Supplying Subaru dealer says change the cambelt at 60K
A.n.other Subaru dealer says change the cambelt at 45K
Subaru provide incomprehensible fax!

Any other offers ?

Cheers

If it's the same as the Impreza, then a MY99 and older is 45,000 miles. The MY00 cars is at 60,000 miles.

Your Forester would be considered a MY00 if it were an Impreza, but have a look in the service book, it will say.

Cheers

Imprezas and Forresters follow the same servicing schedule according to my MY00 service book which I noticed has "Impreza and Forrester" as one model type. The 4 Cam Turbo engine in this model year for these vehicles is listed as needing a cam belt change at 4 years/ 60,000 miles in the table that describes what work is to be carried out at which service. The bit that gets stamped though has Cambelt mentioned at 3 year / 45,000 miles. The upshot is that you can actually choose when you want it according to Subaru UK but the dealer must make a note as to whether they have done it when they stamp the book. Basically I think they wanted to extend the point of belt change and then cocked up the printing of the service book. It is possible though that not all service books are the same even for the same model year so you need to read through it all carefully. As mentioned before I believe pre MY00 needs the 45,000 mile one - no choice. Sounds like you have an MY00 though. I am only so knowledgable because I had the service today and all this was explained.
