Stan Palmers & Co.....

I have been reading this forum for months now, ever since my MY00 was nicked and then torched from outside my house. I have decided to sell the house and buy a new STI 8.
But one question that is concerning me is that I bought my last car from Lancaster Pangbourne didn't get greatest service and I paid over the odds(Silly impulse buy) but I am looking at importing the new child and what to know how dealers like the highly acclaimed Stan Palmer and other dealers nationwide make money if companies like Litchfield and Keyring are offering the same car for less cash. I appreciate that the car is imported from Europe but essentially is the same car.
Sorry if this has already been covered but before I become a father again I wanna make sure I choose the right mother.

PS. An Impreza is for life not just for Christmas

They make a profit just like any other business, but might I ask why you are concerned about this.
Although I couldn't say exactly what each dealer pays, importers charge less because they pay less than UK dealers pay IM, but I dare say that all dealers, whether franchised or importers make a similar profit to each other. Certainly on a percentage basis at least.

Reason for asking is that I was wondering what the benefits if any of paying the extra and buying from a Subaru UK Dealer.
I mean that if they(Subaru UK) sell the car for £25000 and lets say Litchfield sell it for £22999 why pay the extra? and if people stopped paying the extra then bang goes the dealer network in the UK.

yes but its gonna be worth £2000 less until it reaches about £10-15K if you wanna sell it and the difference seems to be getting smaller? i remember bigger savings last year? Also i am so glad i stuck with the my97 and didnt get a bug eye £6K trade in loss for a MY02 bug eye STI PPP dealer offered me one for £22K!
Thanks subaru for dropping the price and f**king up the value of cars of people who already own a subaru!

I don't think it's quite as simple as that. There will always be issues relating to imports. As many happy import owners will I'm sure point out, they've had the same car, with no problems and for less money. On the other hand there is always the odd horror story, like those who've been supplied Euro cars from non EU countries, and consequently get bog all warranty/support.
Obviously you can't PX as you would with a UK dealer, and as a general rule, your car will be less when it comes time to change. Most people prefer to deal with UK dealers, feeling that there are fewer potential problems, and that they have access to dealers across the UK. Although I'm not sure rules currently are, but the support IM are obliged to offer to EU cars was limited to the first year, and you got no Subaru assist.
Anyway, have a look through the SIDC FAQ, and I'm sure most of your questions will be answered.

Just to let you all know that I have ordered my STI 8 from Iain at Stan Palmers and am delighted with the service.....
No typical salesman b***s**t and is taking my old car in px and delivery to Bedfordshire is not a problem......
So for anyone in doubts give Iain a call.....he makes buy a car a pleasure instead of the normal nightmare.
Rich
PS Thanks to Tim for the sound advice.....

Sorry to hear about the 4 week delay. Stan Palmer is my local dealer and they have always been great so I'm sue it's not their fault.
I had my EcuTeK 2 upgrade there last week and Ian Armstrong dragged the EcuTek guy from god knows where to do it on the same day as the service to save me time.....top stuff..

I travelled 300 miles to pick up mine in November from Stan Palmers, after seeing posts on here about them, and ended up struggling to get home again due to all local roads being flooded on return home (2.5HRS to travel 10 miles and through 18 inches of water at one point - scary with 300 miles on the clock)...... Which reminds me, never did get the standard headlights back, need to give them a shout about that, crackin service though,
