Freeserve are apparently doing a deal with NTL to provide broadband similar to what they do with BT atm.
Not sure if it will use ADSL via the NTL phone line, or be cable - I'm gonna guess its ADSL.

I take it that complainignisn't helping? At my parent's house, I lost the cable modem service 3 times in a year for close to a week at a time. After about 5 callouts, they had boosters fitted to the junction box 30 metres from my house. They did the trick. The link has been excellent and the bandwidth results are constantly between 800kbps-1000+kbps. Pretty schweet for a 512 line . Damn shame I only have ADSL now and all they do is use email....
Cheers,
Nick

I have NTLWorld broadband and cannot fault it.
Then I do live on an estate which is 80% wrinklies, so the usage in this area is pretty low, and I get the bandwidth to my self most of the time

Same here. Got NTL and not had a problem. Frequently get around 540k as well (not bad for a 512k line ). Guess it must be a regional problem....

Don't forget that the 512k is actually measured in kilobits and internet explorer etc report the speed in kilobytes, (i.e. 512 kilobits = 64 kilobytes). So IE / Netscape will report somewhere around 60 for a 512k line....

It's a little advertised fact but NTL do a 1Mb service now too...
I've been running 1MB for a month or so now, downloads pretty consistent 120Kbyte / Sec. Luvly :-)
Admitedly, once every couple of weeks the pace box will lock up and you need to reboot it, but nothings ever perfect!
