Advice - music file type ?
Guys looking for a bit off advice, friend of mine has asked me to d/load a couple off songs for him onto disc to be played at his fathers funeral which takes place in a few days time, d/loading and burning onto disc is not a problem but not sure what file format to convert the mp3 file to so it can be played within the music system at the service ?
is there any freeware programmes that will allow me to convert the mp3 file to whatever it is I require ??
any help would as always be much appreciated.

Have alook at cdex that should do the trick
you need to save it as a WAV file to play in a normal cd player
No fancy menu's or nesting of the tracks
Burn one and try it in a non mp3 compatible cd player

Exactly. Or if you want another freeware alternative that does everything in one step, you could try CDBurnerXP. Just select "Audio-CD" on startup and the rest is drag&drop of your mp3s.

Okay great this cdburnerxp had a look at that but sure it mentioned you agrea to pop up adds / browser changes once downloaded ??
any other small freeware software titles that would allow me to simply burn the now converted wav files to disc, using windows 8.

Try the download at the main webpage here. Select "More download options" to the right of the CDBurnerXP icon and then the "Portable" version. You'll get a zip file with a version of the program that makes no changes to your system. It doesn't even install a start menu shortcut. Extract the zip file and run it with the cdbxpp.exe file.
Or use the installer version without OpenCandy
Hope this helps.
Edit: Also didn't read, that you already converted your files to WAV. Then you could also use the Windows 8 Media Player to burn the CD. See this guide and just start at step 2
