Talking

I currently have one of these. It's a really good machine but is in need of a little tweak. It has a Pentium III 800 which is running at 797Mhz.

I wondered if i could get it over 1000Mhz easily. I have some extra fans to hand, so cooling has been catered for.

Anyone......please??

Cheers

Iain,

Depends on the board really. We have Dell Optiplex's in work and they have a CPU speed selector jumper on the mobo. Doesn't matter what I set it too, it always runs at the processor speed. I'm guessing it's the speed lock on the Intel chips that's stopping it going any higher.

Have you check the Dell website for the layout of the mobo?? If there's no jumpers and nothing in the BIOS, then I doubt that it can be done.

The usual jumper to move is the closest one to the Chip. Wether they can be clocked too depends on the fan and the chip, if for instance you have a PIII/PII they cannot be clocked easily, were as a AMD can easily, providing the fan is up to it. Remeber you void your garuntee when you do this.

Thanks Mike,

The machine is now out of warranty, so as with the Scooby now is the time to modify!!

I have looked and cannot find any jumpers near the processor. Could the jumper settings be done at the factory with solder to try and avoid people doing this?

I have also tried doing it via the bios, but to no avail.

Anymore hints?

Cheers
