Need ADSL modem with LAN - not USB
#1
Hi,
Cable not available in my new street (bagh!) so have to get ADSL.
My current setup is cable modem with lan, and would like similar in new house with a ADSL modem with LAN and not USB - what are good ones?

dabs.com do a adsl modem with ethernet connection as the "cheapest". have a look at the actiontec as well, with router and "wireless-ready", and a D-Link DSL 504 (modem/router) is worth checking out too.

if you want cheapest of the cheap adsl modem with router and 4-port, then checkout www.dabs.com, quicklinx code 17P8WS at only £75+VAT! should be able to stick in wireless access point into the ports.

Let me clarify - I want a setup whereby I do NOT need the PC to have anything to do with the ADSL modem...
I want ONE box that connects to the ADSL port from BT, and then this
box outputs to a LAN. The PC is not involved at any stage of this at all (ie doesn't have to control modems/hubs/routers).
Can I do this?

Yes you can, I would advise you use an ADSL Modem or Router with built in firewall.
This would protect you against outsiders etc. adslsource.co.uk is where I got mine.
Hope this helps.

There are several around that will do what you want. I've used the Asus AAM6000EV from www.solwise.co.uk for several months now. Connects to BT and has single 10Mb port which connects to my switch, Asus stays powered on 24x7 so any machine on my network can use the net at any time. See www.adslguide.org.uk for other options.

Cool - looks like the router solution is what I need as I don't want a PC on all the time just to deal with ADSL routing etc.
I have a Mac powerbook as well connected wirelessly, hence a stand-alone solution is ideal.
Thx for the help........
