Zip file - windows 8 ?

Default Zip file - windows 8 ?
Anyone advise me if windows 8 has a built in programme to unzip compressed files and if so point me in the right direction to find it ?! ( as a complete new user kinda struggling with windows 8 ) Failing that any freeware programme that will allow me to do such a thing, not sure what's free and actually works with windows 8 ?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Download 7zip which is free and is good or WinRar which I prefer

If it's zip it will uncompress no problems in windows 8 if it's a .rar file then no it wont

What is the compressed format - as mentioned above 7Zip is the goto program

Okay cheers, did look at that 7zip website but did not mention it supporting windows 8 hence was a bit confused.
