Hello there!
We have a spare room that my eldest uses when he stays over & he has recently been moaning about lack of tv in the room, the kids have a family come games room they have taken over but as he's a slight bit older & as a teenager he says he wants his own privacy (probably so he can touch himself)
Anyway i picked up a cheapo philips used tv today but its not got freeview but has hdmi. So in order he can access Sky go & such likes whats the most cost effective solution ? Seen the now tv & roku things. My ability with tech isnt the greatest so something thats easy to setup isnt also a positive.
Mucho thanks

Get Netflix or Lovefilm they are around the £5 mark each a month and he will be able to watch what he wants and you can also watch it, if its not what he likes after trying it just cancel and it no harm done
I'm waiting till february when my Sky contract ends and I'm getting both of them again as I find them better than sky.

Has your eldest got a laptop he can plug into it, preferably with an HDMI output? If you can do that then he can watch pretty much whatever he wants (including more **** than you could possibly ever want for ).

Get yourself one of the 'proper' Android boxes from Amazon etc - Pivos etc. You can put Android app's on so TVCatchup.com etc would do the job. Also Sky Go, ITV, BBC iPlayer
Done the same this weekend albeit for the kitchen TV - also doubles up as a second monitor for my laptop when I'm working at home and a good internet browsing device for recipes, family calendar etc.

ok are y ready
Roku are ok for Netflix and Streaming from a PLEX server ( software that runs on a pc in your house that looks at your entire pirated film Library ) :P
WesternDigital TV ... these are only 60 quid and stream direct should he have some films hes acquired, either plug into the USB or point to it over the network, Not a bad little box I must say. Also have Netflix on and apps
but if Netflix is sufficient which it sometimes is, then Apple TV is a great device, very smooth interface.
Suppose weigh up what he has, im not saying he has many errrr films that hes got from Arthur daily, but if so look at the WD TV as this is better than ROKU as they rely on a middle man for streaming....

Gets me all sky sports & lates movies (Even ones at cinema),
Plug my HDMI lead into laptop & then connect to TV.
