In al fairness, I love the idea of JB, just as I've always liked to look at what's going on under the skin
And I like Apple stuff, so the opportunity to have a look in really intriguing.
On a real-world need basis, it's a shame that Apple don't let you assign different tones to message alerts. It's not a major one, but for some, it's super-useful.
Even being able to FTP files to/from your phone - that's cool IMHO.
As is engaging customisable "desktops"
The piracy thing isn't appealing as there's so many apps (for me anyway) that are worth the purchase price. Games don't interest me either.

My apologies for not making it as succinct as I could.
YES, you can. From a wide range of 28 tones (we're talking texting etc, not ringtones)
If you want to put in your own text message alert tones, unless iOS has totally changed, even under JB, you still had 28 "addresses". To put your own in, you would have to rename/overwrite any of the 28 pre-existing addresses.
Not essential to some, but very useful for others.

Something Apple has decided you are not allowed to do and something you're not use to as you have been brain washed into using Apple's rules.
Or just buy Android, no fannying around required then.

It's called customisation or down to personal choice, imagination and individuality.

Really?? that's great
What are the limitations of this? Eg used to use my old JB'd 3G for data storage. Is tis possible?
Only asking as I'm at the end of 'berry contract and am toying (seriously) with a return to iOS. Probably a 5s/6...
This FTP option would be very useful for file storage without wireless comms requirements
Got any links to it?

Yup. I don't use FTP but I do sometimes use http to transfer files to my iPhone. The same software that sets up the http server can be used to connect to all sorts of drives. Search for Air Sharing.
Here's an FTP server, there are probably loads, this was the first that came up in Google and it's free.

No worries. I can't help you with a background that plays Madonna videos nor App icons styled after Angry Birds, you'll need to go to a hacked version of Android for that

Wasn't after anything as crass and crude as that, but getting under the hood for that type of thing would be interesting IMHO.

1. Don't feed the trolls (both pro and anti, regardless of platform)
2. From what I know, the evasion jailbreak will work on any iOS device running iOS 6.0 - 6.1.2 (latest iOS is 6.1.3 for most devices, and 6.1.4 for iPhone 5). Depending on device and iOS version, you may be able to JB your device.
I did have my 3GS Jb'd for while, simply so I could poke around, and possibly unlock it when travelling outside Canada. I did like SBSettings, specifically the quick toggles for WiFi and Bluetooth, but OS 6 something did make Bluetooth a little easier to get to, and iOS 7 has control centre which should be perfect for that (alas it won't run on the 3GS, new phone time perhaps?)
I do have some FTP app on my phone, think it is a client rather than a server though. If you wanted to use the device for data storage purposes, you could look at DiskAid. Great little app, and will allow you to copy files onto your device. I think there is some additional files app which helps more with file storage on a device too.
