Question AV installation/kit question

I currently have the following equipment:
Panasonic 50" plasma display (PD30?)
Sky+HD x2
PS3
Onkyo TX-SR313 receiver
KEF 2005 5.1 speakers
Old Sony 28" big-box TV (i know, but it still has a great SD picture)
Toshiba DVD player

I have the following rooms:
A largely square lounge where the Panasonic, PS3 and Onkyo are connected up, but currently with only 2 of the KEF eggs in stereo mode, plus the sub-woofer
A rectangular family room where the Sony is connected to the DVD player

Do I:
a) Get an installer to route cables for the 5.1 speakers in the lounge and go through re-decoration of the room, use this for most viewing and just let the kids live with the Sony 28" for the time being. or:
b) Replace the Sony with a modern 42" display and install the Onkyo and KEF stuff in the family room, and buy a soundbar for the Panasonic in the lounge and avoid all the mess/hassle of the speaker cable routing?

Budget is ~£1k

Thanks for the advice

What is the wall construction? Any access from above or under the floor? Any wireless speakers take your fancy?

Have you considered the stands for the KEF's?

My room is similar with similar sized kit.

Ive moved it about a bit of late to enhance the soundstage as the front was a bit narrow, and utilised 2x more KEF's to run it in a Dolby Front High config as the 2 side channels were pointless in my small room.

Walls are solid brick on all sides. Floor is engineered boards laid over underfloor heating. I'm guessing that "wireless" means that I can drop the chasing out from the amp to speakers, but I'll still need to power them?

I have the front pair on the KEF stands. They're not bad but still look messier than proper channelling and take up quite a bit of floorspace for the size of the speaker.

Does your cabling run under the carpet?

I put my cabling under the carpet/underlay.
However, due to the quality of the cables used, in hindsight, I should have created a tiny little track in the floor to recess them slightly, as you can 'feel' them when walking.
