Default Tablet or laptop?

All I need it for is browsing the net, photos, music and general computing. Not a gamer.

1. Can I plug a portable DVD/burner, printer or portable Hard drive into tablet?
2. Kindle Fire or a proper tablet?
3. Best buys?
4. Budget £200 - 300.

Thanks all.

Always a laptop! I have an ipad and an android tablet and where all have there uses the laptop is the best by far for long term use, the touch screen does get on your nerves after using it for a while and the constant auto correct of typing similar to a mobile phone is even worse

Tegra Graphics, Quad Core, Full HD, and best of both worlds tablet/laptop

Tablets a toy really

Unless it's windows 8 tablets, still wouldn't like to say whether you can connect up dvd burner.

Dell latitude*, basic one with keyboard for that sort of future.

But then for 300 quid you'll get much better spec laptop of course

I wouldn't buy a tablet if I didn't have a desktop, but my Laptop has not been on the lap since buying the iPad two years ago. If you're just a living room user then you could likely get away with just an iPad, don't be fooled by claims made regarding Android tablets, they're not well supported by developers, just big phones really.

If you need to connect external optical drives/mass storage and printing forget tablets, iPads, Android, Kindle etc. as it's simply not possible. Just get a cheap Windows laptop. It will easily meet all your needs you've specified.

Not correct at all. You can attach external storage and printing is simple from an iPad, the only thing on your list you can't do is connect an optical drive, but these are pretty much dead anyhow.

By optical/mass storage I meant DVD/CD reader/writers, not portable hard drives as specified by the OP. I wouldn't say optical drives are dead just yet, people still have vast collections of music and movies on CD and DVD. But I take your point about printing as I forgot about wireless and cloud printing which is available on all tablet devices, was just thinking of physical connections. Anyway the point is moot as the OP is going for a Windows laptop.

Verdict: First misinformation of the thread from the iOS camp.

Evidence: Insufficient clarification as to meaning of statement and definition of 'claims'

Until I can easily download music in a lossless format I'll carry on buying it on CD and do the conversion myself so not dead for me. Also for HD movies Blu-Ray is quite a nice format. I don't want to use all the space on my media server with HD material, just using the disc is more efficient.

Gotcha, I guess you're in a really privileged position, going to the artists studio and creating your own CD. Most of use have to use third parties to get our music.

Can't find any on Amazon (.co.uk anyway). Haven't used iTunes for a while so I'll have another look.
