Playstation2 price cuts announced...

PS2 cheaper in US but no change yet in UK
Sony today unveiled a widely anticipated price cut for PlayStation 2 in the US, dropping the price of the machine from $299 (£206) to $199 (£137). PSone, meanwhile, will see a drop to a mere $49 (£34).
While a PSone price drop has also been confirmed for the UK from 18 May, where it will retail at £49, Sony have yet to announce a UK PS2 price drop. But following Xbox's change in price to £199 and Gamecube retailing for a mere £129, a European PS2 price drop seems inevitable for Sony to remain competitive.
PlayStation 2's UK price was last reduced in the autumn, when it hit the £199 mark.

This is rip-off Britain remember, and price drops for the PS2 have been mooted for months now.
Perhaps they won't drop the price here. As long as sales outstrip X-Boxes and Gamecubes why do they need to?

Because they may be beating XBox but not the gamecube.. Nintendo say they have sold 400,000 cubes in the first 2 weeks of release.. its reckoned about a quarter of those in the UK.
Far as I can see there are *alot* of people holding off buying a PS2 as they know the price should be coming down soon, me included.
It would seem MS are gearing up to give the XBox a makeover and cut production costs ( cheaper components, moving factories from Hungary to China ), one can only assume this is so they can cut the price further, possibly down to gamecube prices. If Sony can pre-empt this cut it would be the nail in the coffin so to speak.
