Consider TN vs IPS. We bought one of each recently for general and photographic use. The former is awful despite good reviews and the latter is brilliant. I gather there may be some response advantages for TN which might help gaming, but I've not looked into it as I no longer game.

Hi Ian

Check this

I've used in work Iiyama or Dell(they're still in most cases expensive)

I agree.

Although IPS is reported to not have such a good response rate. So that "could" be an issue for gaming. HOWEVER pretty much ALL LCD panels have poor response when compared to their CRT predacessors. Unless its a 3D capeable screen.

Anyhoo, out of budget, but I finally settled on a Dell U2412M (not 3D ) only because I've been there with low end TN type LCDs and it was a jump backwards compared to CRT in terms of resolution, reponse and colour purity. Its still not quite there with the blacks, and the colour is still only 6 bit (like the majority of LCDs), but TBH its a damn good monitor for the money IMO.

Ips may be slower refresh rates but I've seen reviews that say the delay time is more important and the dell u2412 does pretty well for this, so it may have slower refresh, but processes the arriving signals faster so ultimately it updates quicker. (Or something along those lines!)

I run 3 u2412's in eyefinity and they seem to work nicely.

It's other way round SJawa when IPS was first introduced, copy n paste from wiki;

IPS (In-Plane Switching technology) panel is a technology used for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). It was invented to solve the main limitations of TN-matrices at the time: relatively slow response times, small viewing angles and low-quality color reproduction. In-Plane Switching involves arranging and switching the molecules of the liquid crystal (LC) layer between the glass substrates essentially in a plane parallel to these glass plates.

These days LED backlit TN displays are pretty much as good or better with the refresh rates, so IPS panels are more for the pro/gfx designer's usage, as IPS panels have more and colour palettes available.

The ones posted here already. Most LED backlit TN displays are really good these days.

So AOC, Dell. I myself have a 24" HD LED BENQ which is excellent.

Don't blame you with PC world

The Dell monitor is 1920x1200 resolution which is partly why its more money.

Ian ffs will you please just order one and end this thread

IPS will always be better than a TN panel. You pays your money and you takes your choice
