What exactly are you wanting to have separate on the iPad, music, movies, apps, email?
You can sign in and out of AppleIDs on iOS, pretty sure that an app purchased on one account isn't deleted / restricted when you do this, so you can run them ok. Music and possibly videos probably work ok in this case, if they are in the Music app. Music stored in the cloud would only appear dependant on what account you're signed in with.
The bottom line here is that iOS isn't designed to be multi user in the same way OS X / Windows is. If it were then you could switch users and this type of thing would work properly.

Sorry I should have given more info.
Basically it is my wife's ipad and I don't really use it. But Sonos have just released a software update that allows itunes music to be streamed directly from ipad/phone/touch without any faffing.
I don't have an iphone and so wanted to use the ipad as a sonos controller to stream music from my itunes acct.
My wife already has her itunes acct configured on the ipad but does NOT use it for music.
I have an itunes acct configured on my Mac and use it ONLY for music.
So what I'd like to do is when I want to listen to music pick up her ipad and use my itunes acct to listen to my music.
I hope that makes sense.
Thanks

I think you should just be able to sight out of her account and then sign in as your account and it should then work

Because once you have more than a few tunes a folder or even multiple folders are a total ballache.
Whatever you think about itunes, it is a million miles better than using folders. My 2TB film/tv collection is bad enough without 40gb of mp3's, let alone playlists.

Brun, if I understand you you correctly (I'm a bit computer inadequate) the process is not easy. Most of my music is stored on a hard drive, I can transfer itunes music to my hard drive but this means I need to do this every time I buy a new itune track.
The only way I have found to do this is copy the entire itunes folder onto my hard drive whenever I buy a single tune, this is a pia.
Sonos have made life easier in that if I have an ipad/phone/touch that is wifi connected to the same network as my Sonos then the Sonos will see all the itunes songs.
So basically if I use the Sonos app (on an apple device) I can either play my ripped CDs from my hard drive or any itunes songs. This would make life much easier.
So basically can I take it that the ipad won't let TWO itunes accts to run simultaneously but I can log out of one and log into another?
Many thanks

I seem to have completely missed the fact that we are talking about an Ipad I was really talking about playing music from a folder on a PC where i can simply export the entire playlist out of itunes into a folder if required which is what you mention above. The difference between you and me is that i very rarely but music so exporting is a once in a blue moon thing for me. I you buy tune regularly then i can see it would be a pita

...........it's just occurred to me that both me and the wife both use the same itunes and out music tastes are hugely different so i have overcome that by having 2 separate play lists. When she plugs her phone in it syncs with her music and when i plug mine in, it syncs with my music
