problem with a dreamcast
my brother gave me a few game consoles quite a few years ago - an N64, a dreamcast and one other i can't find at the moment... maybe a gamecube?
he asked for the n64 back a few months ago and i dropped it off to him last week when i was at his place. that lead to me finding the dreamcast and the children are now asking for it to be set up.
i've plugged it all in but all i can get on the tv is a very sketchy black and white, almost line-drawing like image. probably something obvious (i've cleaned the contacts on all the leads and pluggesd back in) - does anyone know enough about these to give me a few pointers?
had a look on the web but i can't find anything that describes the "ghosted" display we have on the screen.
TIA

thanks for the reponses. should have said, it's via a scart lead although there are white and red component plugs as well at the scart lead (ie just sound, IIRC the red/white are the audio and the yellow is the video).
when the machine turns on, the screen is black but with a very feint trace of some text, almost as if someone's traced around it with a 9H pencil rather than an HB (ie it's vague).

Try a different scart lead. Connected up a freeview box for my mum last week and the omly colour showing was red. Thought the new box was faulty until i swapped scarts. Also check settings on the console , NTSC / PAL ect. have no clue what any of it means , but change them to see what happens !

Lol , cant believe we are worrying about a bloody Dreamcast !
Sold my Mega-drive , and Commadore 64 a couple of years ago and for all the money i got i shouldve kept them. Fired them up before selling and it was like they were never off ! Sonic was as if my thumbs had memory , and the Commadore loading in brought back memories (that should be read as nightmares)

Hey don't diss the Dreamcast, some seriously great games on there. They are not too bad, keep them clean and they survive for a while.
The DC has it's own connector and then goes into either a 3-pin scart connector or TV lead if I remember, you will need to check the cable as it can get faulty.
Dreamcast stuff is cheap on eBay.

Thought I'd give you all some closure ;-)
I bought a component cable off eBay a few weeks after my last post here as it was the cheapest one I could find. Bingo - happy children
Since them my 6yr old daughter has proceeded to whoop my *** on the tony hawks skateboarding game at every opportunity - until last week, as I now have a secret weapon....the handstand :-)
