Default MacOS X 10.5...

...required.

Im a licensed user of 10.5, but unfortunately my 10.5 retail DVDs have turned out, on closer inspection, to be Intel MacBook 10.5 system discs.

Can anyone suggest a source for a set of retail (and therefore dual platform) DVDs, either to buy or to download. I supect that the buying route isnt going to work, as even used sets cost silly money and whilst, as a licenced user, I can legitimately use downloaded copies, it seems about as hard to find an unadulterated copy as it would for a licenced WinXP Pro user to find an OEM XP disc image!

I do have a set of OSX 10.4 CDs for my earlier eMac, but Im extremely relcutant to take this backwards step, as this machine was actually sold new with the 10.5 upgrade (in early 2008, well over a year after the model was discontinued).

You mean the second-to-none customer service that Apple are so famous for won't help you out with this?

I hadnt even tried Mark. Its a six year old Mac, so theres no chance of that at all. Also, it was built and mastered with 10.4 and the 10.5 was a retail upgrade added to make a last years obsolete model saleable, so Apple would only supply 10.4 discs, which I already have.

When a new OS comes out Apple typically recalls all existing media and replaces it with the new OS media, well, pre Lion anyway.

Work had wanted to get a 10.6 retail disk from them, and we've apparently got some enterprise level account with them, but it was still a no-go, they did not have the media and could not get it.

If you had a Mac OS developer account then you may be able to get the software from there, not sure how far back they'd keep releases. Xcode seems to go back to v3, if not v2, so it's possible OS versions are there too, I just don't have access any longer to see it.

Well there's a 10.5 upgrade disc on ebay for £69 so you could for the price of a Windows 7 dvd get the disc and install 10.4 using the discs you already have and then upgrade. Seems about the cheapest route failing finding a unfettled image on torrents somewhere.

Pretty sure 10.5 was universal. Though upgrade disks might have arc specific versions

Ive never really ventured into newsgroups, unfortunately. 10.5 was dual architecture, as Markus said, so if its retail itll suit a PPC.

Just a quick update, and I know this isn't Leopard (10.5) but Snow Leopard (10.6), however, Apple has put SL back for sale on it's online stores, have a look here: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC...6-snow-leopard

For 18 quid surely that is a no brainer if it is compatible?
