Default GRRRR Apple IOS6

Ok so this is what in my book makes Apple frustrating

IOS6 is out and it doesn't support the IPAD 1 its like their way of saying upgrade ya Tightwad.

Now Microsoft on the other hand, works with everything, yeah ok hardware may need a tweak, but at least they don't force your hand in the upgrade.

poor Ipad 1 feel sad for him.

Yes and no. You need to be bloody quick! Grab tiny umbrella and see if it has the ability to save the shsh blobs for your iPad, specifically for 5.1.1

If it does then in theory you can grab the 5.1.1 software from iclarified and use tiny umbrella to fake apples authentication server and restore 5.1.1

If you cannot do that then you are stuck on 6 as apple does not allow you to downgrade

You could also, if you are quick, grab the 5.1.1 software from iClarified and option click the Restore button, select the downloaded software and see if that works (I'm about to try this, if it fails I'll try TinyUmbrella and worst case go to iOS 6)

I just completed a restore doing this and it did indeed work. The key is to get in quick, as Apple stops signing the 5.1.1 software, and once that is done, Tiny Umbrella is your only possible hope.

I've gone to iOS 6 as I had to restore to unlock my phone and it seemingly didn't do it with the iOS 5.1.1 restore, but with the 6.0 restore I saw the unlock screen.

For home use, it's mainly that *I* want to decide when I go to iOS 6, which may or may not be on launch day. If I need to restore, as was the case as I'd unlocked my iPhone, then I am, unless I know how to, forced to go to iOS 6.

For work use, there are occasions when people borrow devices and even though strict instructions are given not to update them, they come back upgraded to a new OS and then a sheepish "Sorry about that" is given, which doesn't help as unless I have the blobs I cannot put the device back down to the OS it was running. The reason is that we need to maintain compatibility with certain OS versions, and Apple provides no official way for developers to downgrade their OS, which would be so useful.

Is anyone else getting freezes and lags with IO6 ?

Granted i'm just on the 3GS at the min and the processor aint as quick but i wasn't having any prob on IO5, on boot up when it reaches the slider screen i have to wait forever to move the slider to get to the desktop as its just freezes. Also ive had lockups whilst web browsing whilst the page just freezes and hangs.

I was planning to buy the iphone5 but i aint impressed enough with it to part with around £500 as i'm on a SIM only deal which i prefer as its a very good deal i have.

Any way of going back to IO5 ?

No, I'm a HGV driver and use google maps nearly every day to plan my route and have a good look at the places I need to get to, street view is indeed a fantastic part to it that comes in very handy for me, and on the google app it all worked very well together.

This just proves the arrogance of Apple putting their own App in place of the google one when it is obvious even to someone with Apple rose tinted glasses that it is an inferior Application (even tho they would never admit it, they know, they just know )

P.S. Has anyone been to Dunnie Races lately ??

My 3GS seems ok. Did you do an update or a restore? If you just updated it, be it through iTunes or on the device, then try a full restore via iTunes and see if that makes a difference

As for going back to iOS 5, read my posts earlier in this thread. Key thing, get in quick! I'd suggest getting Tiny Umbrella doing it's thing asap.

Jack, will you ever admit that Apple have produced something ****? Yes, you can still get Google maps, that is not the point.

Apple have replaced the default map app with something inferior.

Just done a restore in itunes, lost all my contacts Not sure what happened with that as each time i logged into itunes it did a sync.

Its still the same, when the desktop appears i can't move the slider for a good 20-25 seconds after the desktop has appeared. Also it takes a lot longer to boot up, the apple logo stays on screen for quite a while.

Also, has anyone noticed that the battery indicator doesn't have the % thats remaining anymore ?

Did you backup the phone before restoring?
As for battery indicator, check here:

So you'd like me to say the Maps app is ****, I can't do that, it's been brilliant for me, I've spent way too much time exploring London and my TomTom has been assigned to foreign trips only. Now if I was judging it solely by its ability to show a ***** shaped crop circle in Shrewsbury, or its ability to display Google adverts, then yes it's ****.

I'm looking forward to updates, I enjoyed fresh content on Google Earth and I'll do the same with iOS Maps, maybe one day the ***** will return.
