Need some help with my Ipod Video
OK. I've put my ipod back together with a 32Gig Compact flash card (the old HD had died)
Put it all back together and I'm getting the Apple Logo and "sad" face icon cycle.
When I try to put it into DFU mode, it comes up with sad face (despite my formatting the (compatible) CF card Mac Format.
It sometimes comes up with "Please wait very low battery" warning - but I know there's nothing wrong with the battery. And then the spinning segment logo.
Suggestions on how I can force this thing into being recognised in either iTunes or as a disk.
Secondly, food for thought, is there a disk image of the ipod OS that can be copied onto the card?
Thanks in advance,
Dan

You could try running through the steps here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
How exactly did you format the CF card? From what I recall the iPod does have a specific partitioning scheme, but I could be wrong.

Sorry for the late reply guys - had a weekend of buying a new car.... and well.... it had to be driven
Anyhoo, yeh, I have a sneaky suspicion that the cable might be fubar'd (and possibly a battery)
For the sake of £10, I'm going to order some new parts.
FWIW, the CF adapter is the Tarkan one and the CF card is the 32Gig Transcend one.
I formatted the card in disk utils - just to see if it came up on the desktop whilst in the Ipod (ie storage device).
Nothing from the drive at all.
So I'm leaning towards faulty ribbon?
After these 2 parts, there's only a replacement logic board and the whole thing will be new anyway!!
Will keep you posted, but thanks for the info so far

Good news then
Have to admit until you posted up about this I had no idea you could mod and iPod to use a CF card. Very cool mod I must say.

Agreed Markus.
I stumbled on the mod whilst searching for replacement HDs to resurrect my ipod.
Seemed a much better way of doing it too. Especially as the ipod was open anyway.
And it's SO light now.
Very happy with the mod, so I can heartily recommend it

Yeh
Gotta admit that the battery life is hilarious. 2 hour's use per day for the last 2 weeks in the car, and the battery has just moved down to 3/4 full charge
Fantastic mod.
