Windows 8

Windows 8
Anyone using it? I have a copy installed on my pc and I have to admit its a bit of a pain. I'm still trying to work my way around it as the software seems more suited to their touch screen phones than a pc. I will suffer with it a bit more to see if I can get used to it and if not its back to Windows 7 ultimate.

Yeah it takes getting used to. Love the face that you can now run Hyper-V on it. Running it on a dev box and VM atm. Seems to run smoothly but "start menu" takes getting used to.

Always the way with a new OS. Look forward, and don't look back.
I had to do some techy/networking stuff on a XP machine earlier and it felt like a limb had been chopped off.
And I found some of the win7 stuff annoying at first (i.e the task bar and storage location of user files) when compared to Vista, but soon got used to it.

Just downloaded it and am really enjoying it, certainly a step in the right direction from Microsoft. Start menu is now gone, though apparently on the actual released version there will be an option to have it back. Marketplace is a brilliant idea and I can't wait until a lot more of the phone apps make it over.

I think it looks ****e, and is obviously marketed towards touch screen.
Doesn't the window key act as the 'Start' button? I don't have it but some of my students are using it on their laptops and spend forever 'throwing' windows away - yawn.

I've only seen it on a tablet. First impressions were that the Windows GUI side of things didn't make sense on a tablet, but the Metro (think that's the term for the funky new GUI thing) side of things did make sense on the tablet. The reverse seems to be true, Windows side ok on desktop, Metro not so much.

Nice long review here ... http://www.anandtech.com/show/5630/i...nsumer-preview ...
I must admit that I've downloaded it but not installed it yet. Anyone know if I can just install a pukka copy of Office 2010 onto it?

Someone's made a new start menu, feels much more normal now.

Edit: On second thoughts, gone back to standard Metro. Stardock seems a bit poor.

yeah i installed it on my FREE dell precision m6600 with multi touch screen, felt nice, but i have to admit i didnt have time to figure out how to set it up, and when i could click games i sacked it LOL. but after looking at work, you can give it the same feel as win7, as i feel without a touch screen for most its a ballache.
i did run a few games in the end and all ran fine. I like the way you swipe across for more info.

Loaded it in a virtual machine. It looks 'different'. Works stangely in that IE for example can be launched from the start tiles and also from the desktop but seems to invoke different instances and I can't figure out the mouse use to swap between them.
