Default Converting and putting movies on the iPad

HI,

Sorry if wrong section!

I have some films that are mkv format as well as avi.

What do i need to do to convert these so that i can pop them on the iPad?

Want to minimise the file size so that i can as many film on as possible, but also to make sure the quality is good and watchable..

thanks

There are tons of ways to do this but loads of variables you need to consider.

Firstly the iPad only accepts and understands .mp4 files. So you need to make sure the files are converted to that format. Now depending how you convert them is dependent on whether you are on a mac or pc. Loads of file conversion utilities for both.
Many of them have presets for the most common formats including iphone, ipad with the relevant compression etc.

Once you have your files converted then you next question is how to get them onto the ipad.
Two ways are the best.

1. Sync with your pc via usb cable by selecting the movies you need in the movies tab.
2. Transfer the files you need using something like Good Reader etc as that will allow movies to be transfered without sync.

There are other ways like dropbox, oplayer etc but they are quite slow

I use VLC which plays about every format known to man. Although I understand this has been pulled from the App store now?

A quick Google and http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id384098375?mt=8 seems to do the trick.

MP4 files are not that much smaller than an AVI, so it is easier to just use a player than convert them.

If you want to convert to an iPad compatible format, as others have said, download handbrake and use that. There are presets for iPad, so you'd select that preset, select your source file and then convert.

Plus with handbrake you can say how big the final file size is. Works in batch too so just leave it processing overnight.

i don't get this, people spent their time to give you advice to a good free converter, totally ignored it and installed a cracked one

If you want to go down the jailbreak route then just put XBMC on
