And they didn't achieve this by knocking out cheap crap and covering it with adverts. Nice job Apple.

That data is very tailored towards Apple.

Granted the iPad has demolished the competition but it's hardly a PC.

I agree that Apple are probably the biggest brand in computing these days.

Ah its not just me that still thinks a PC is a desktop then

Hell if your including ipads why not include iphones as well - they do almost the same thing albeit on a smaller screen.

I really doubt it - even if you broke out just the consumer market I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of PC's sold are pre-built. Whether thats your generic brands like HP, Sony etc or custom gamiers builds from places like OcUK, Chillblast etc.

Ive built many PC's in the past although got annoyed with the constant need to upgrade so moved to PS3 for gaming about 3 yrs ago. It was good back then but latest release of big titles like BF3 have really shown up how inferior they are graphically to a semi-decent PC. Imho with so many companies doing strong custom gaming builds at a budget it makes less and less sense to build your own unless its a hobby or your into heavy overclocking.

Of course the iPad is a PC. It can run Windows if that makes you happy.

So there's no denying it, even Apple acknowledges that Windows is superior if it allows it to run on their PC's. Clearly Apple have succumbed to their own users love and demand for Windows when normally it's Apple that dictates what can and cannot be run on their devices.

When you consider how many self build PCs are made and shops make up there own barebones systems, how many windows PCs sell each year as compared to Apple's? As apple is its own operating system its totally different comparing to the likes of Asus or Dell as they are competing with people who can build thier own machine.

You fell for the marketing Jon.

Apple don't dictate what can and can't be run on my devices. I do that and with a little technical help so could you, it's not too late.

Why would I want to dictate what you run on your device, you should be careful of that vulnerability, if what you say is right, and you're always right, hopefully won't take too long for Apple to plug that gaping security hole.

No they achieved it by being the one company that makes many different types of personal computers under 1 brand and aspirationally marketing (not a bad thing).

Most Windows PC's are not made by one company, and being the number 1 seller of PC's is far from being a dominant position in the market place.

Apple has about 5.2% of the world market in PC's, Windows accounts for about 90%, with about another 5% being other operating systems.

Sure you can get windows 7 to run on anything, pretty much, but removing the best part of the Apple, ie its operating system to run windows is just mental, just buy a machine designed for windows. Being able to run windows is only an advantage on iMACS which don't have OSX specific software.

Apple is now where the Commodore Amiga and such other great machines were 20 years ago, the market has gone full circle and many people are sick of the fussiness of Microsoft Windows. Put simply, an iMac fulfils the needs of a large proportion of the market while remaining simple, having excellent service backup and a virtually idiot proof OS.

iPad clearly is a pc, personal computer, but it isn't a Wintel PC, which has become the dominant player through "open source architecture" (lack of a patent lol).

PS. You know you can run OSX on a PC Clone as well right Jack?
