Default Virgin Media have now added "fluff" to their download speeds

a little bit of headroom added on the download side so users can actually get the headline 100MBit download speeds.

I don't have any issues with my 10mb virgin fibre optic connection, plenty fast enough, and let's be honest it's far better than the none cable users are getting

I got an e-mail from Virgin last week saying that as I am such a valued customer they will be doubling my broadband speed at no extra cost.
So I wil go from 50 to 100mb. Trouble is it won't be until July-Dec 2012.

But surely when that speed is available in your area, everyone will get it anyway

On another note, unless someone is downloading loads, what`s the point in 100 meg speed

If you call virgin they will usually upgrade you to 20mg and send you a superhub modem/router free and just pay an extra couple quid a month, depending what loyalty discount you're on.

If you call them and upgrade from 10mg to 30,then you'll pay an extra £11.00 per month or so,plus £30.00 activation fee..Might be worth seeing about 20mg if you want to upgrade for almost next to nothing cost wise.

What terminating kit do Virgin provide for these 100Mb connections - assume they are kitted with GigE interfaces otherwise how on earth do you get over 100Mb??

Gone are the days when I download loads. Prefer just a nice low stable ping for my online gaming.

I remember back to the days when I was one of the first on NTLs Cable Broadband and had a ping of around 22ms on Counterstrike. Most would be lucky to get double that these days with everyone man and his dog on BB.

May look into that then and see what I can get, not sure I have any loyalty discounts to be honest and been with them 3 years

Virgin are not the best for transparency when it comes to pricing,if you ever look on the virgin media forum site,is quite a few complaints about the pricing of packages/billing info, existing customers v new customer offers.I'm meant to be getting £20.00 a month discount its actually £19 something but lets just say 20
If you've been with VM for more than 12months then you're entitled to a so called loyalty discount.

Apparently it's only for a select group of customers. Regarding your last point who cares, it's a free upgrade.

The 20MB package has been replaced by the 30MB deal, to give 10,30,50 and 100 MB deals

Just spoke to virgin media about upgrading my broadband from 10 mb to 30mb and the increase is £9 per month because I apparantly am on the maximum discount, but they wanted me to pay a £30 setup fee on top! I know in reality £30 is not much but I think it's a liberty when I already have all their services in so told them to forget it, takes the pi$$

Ask them to send the superhub through the post, they tried this with me and i told them what set up fee,i'm already set up for VM broadband,Its just a matter of swapping my router/modem for the all in one Superhub and they agreed to do it.Once the new hub is set up which you can do yourself, then you call virgin to activate the new hub over the phone, which takes a matter of minutes to do..

Oh and btw you can still get 20mg broadband,it isn't listed on the vm website but if you ask them over the phone they still do it.

That's with the little fellah using his PC as a minecraft server at the same time too.

I don't particularly like VM as a company, but no one else comes close speed wise.
