damn HP
Ok so a few years back i bought a pretty decent spec'd notebook (laptop)
it runs windows 7 without any problems and i've upgraded the ram, i keep ontop of maintenance (and powerleads/batterys) and everything is fine - until now.
The fan is coming on more often, and for longer than usual....you'd think it's more likely to happen in summer huh.... it's well vented and have one of those under laptop cooler pad things blowing cold hair into my fan ports.
Now in HPs wisdom, they've made a unhackable board (on this particular model anyway HP530), so i can only do the very Basic of basic things in bios settings.
So.... what programs can i run in win7 that will show live volts & temp ETC ETC

HP have a bad reputation for the fans. It is usually due to insufficient vents or poorly located fans and heat sinks.
If it's a few years old I'd suggest getting a can of compressed air and spray it into the vents where the fans are. It might free up some of the dust that will have gathered.
Failing that just unscrew the base and open the laptop (http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disass...ove-top-cover/). The fan might be clogged up with dust. Clean that out and spray a little WD40 so it runs more freely. I'd consider replacing the fan completely because of the age, they're only £14 here http://www.laptop-part.co.uk/hp-500-CPU-fan.html
Using the software to read the temps is ok but that won't fix the underlying problem. It wouldn't just suddenly start making more noise and engaging without a problem. Fix that and all will be well.

HP Pavillion models are notorious for clogging fans and on top of that the fan is in such a position you have to dismember the thing to get at it. You could always try a vacuum cleaner on the vents.
Apart from that built like a rock LOL
