Windows xp-strange one ??!!

Default Windows xp-strange one ??!!
Windows xp HP desktop pc - every so often I am hearing the sound like you would get when say inserting a usb lead into the pc then the pc will just freeze and require a reboot. heard the same sound this morning but no freeze up ??!!

only have the one usb port in use and the dongle is fully inserted ie not loose, any ideas what this could be ??!!

Tried disconnecting the *dongle* (whatever it is) and trying without?

Okay will do, its actually the wifi dongle so obviously disconnecting it would mean no internet access.

you might have to revert to "legacy" mode whilst offline

in other words go and visit the topshelf in your local newsagents

dont you see anything pop up ? take everything out of the usb slots n see if the sound pops back,
